I want to nominate my adorable aunt Neerja Shukla, one of the most compassionate and resolute women I have come to know of. She, in just a short span of time of knowing her, barely an year has inspired to me to become a more optimistic and kind hearted person.
Her journey has not been easy at all as a woman and as a mother. From a tragic accident which led to her younger son being paralyzed, to going through the agony of her elder sons’ divorce at the same time…she has always remained as the pillar of strength for her family.
Not only resolute, optimistic, and patient during this adversity in her life, she continued to grow and focus on herself as a person , to place herself in even stronger places mentally and physically to be able to help others – be it discovering Vipasana, meditation. She accepted the fact that her son will not walk again and put all her energy to make his life stable, better and normal. She became the anchor of his life and because of her patience and resilience he is now the Director of a renowned Hedge Fund, and her elder son went on to hold national positions in the companies he worked for.
Being the wife of an IAS officer she has always been inclined to contribute towards causes which help in the upliftment of society. She started the first ever classes for Specially Abled children while working as a teacher and later started one of the only NGO’s in Himachal which are currently helping such children, even at this stage in life she balances family and run’s the NGO.
She passionately believes in humanity, the inherent good and potential in people and for her the sole meaning of life is to do her best to help people in whatever manner she can.
